Great Audio from JJ Surma for a Legend

As a former radio production  guy I still appreciate great work.

Here are some bumper tributes to the great Paul Harvey from JJ Surma over at WMAL in DC.

I worked with JJ at Sportstalk 980 and WTNT which were my last gigs.
Good to see his chops are as strong as ever.
I remember running Paul Harvey at my first station. Part of my job was grabbing his broadcasts. I loved the guy. He came from a generation that got ‘the show’.  As usual I do not have the eloquence to describe him I would like but somewhere I have a great article by Marc Fisher for the Washington Post from a few years back. Find it here.
Anyway, farewell Mr Harvey. You did good work and you made a dent. Which is far more than most of us can say.
Kudos Mr. Surma, you’re doing good work and you served him well.

Christmas Time is Here!

Indeed! I have a long standing tradition, when I leave whoever’s house (usually Mom’s but this year we did my brother -and Veronica’s Godfather – Dan’s house) but when I leave the house and get in the truck for the drive home I fire up the Christmas playlist and Christmastime officially begins!

Well, this year I am naturally extra excited so it was no different.

Thanksgiving was great! Always bearing in mind the point of the day I made sure to sit back, reflect and be thankful for my Family, my health, the Giants being 10-1 11-1 and especially my daughter. Although it was Veronica’s first Thanksgiving and I forgot both the camera and video camera. Oh well. We’re still working the kinks out on the Veronica transport support team. I did manage a few shots on the phone.

Anyway, when it comes to Christmas nothing beats the classics. And classics is what I got. So, in the spirit of giving I’ll be sharing some of the best albums and shows in my collection.

We’ll start with The Mel Blanc Show. Mel, of course, the voice of Bugs Bunny and just about all of the WB cartoons was a huge character voice actor during radio’s golden age. Here he is with his very own show.
